Do You Have Five Jars?

This past weekend Ps Brandon mentioned the ancient Jewish practice of the ‘Five Jar Method’ as a way to budget but even more importantly as a way to prepare ourselves to be generous. Because for many of us being generous isn’t an issue of ‘want to’ but more of ‘how to’. So this is just one way of accomplishing it as we desire to grow in our generosity as followers of Jesus.

It is usually explained by how it would be done with giving ten dollars to a child.

$1 Tithe
$1 Offering
$1 Saving
$2 Investing
$5 Spending

Of course you need to pray first and ask God what he would have you do and then adjust as needed. Part of generosity is preparing our mind via a budget but also preparing our heart for the faith it will take to orient our lives this way.

Again, this is just a framework or a guide. Take the time to really pray and think through what works best for you.

If you’re ready, head over to c3fortworth.com/give and put this principle into practice.
